EVERY CHILD MATTERS
Conrwall YFC supports the government’s Every Child Matters agenda and its five outcomes.
Be Healthy
Cornwall YFC encourages members to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Healthy cooking, nutrition and sports can all be found in the national competitions programme which sees alot of our members taking part annually. Cornwall YFC is currently working with the Chlamydia Screening Service to raise awareness of sexual health issues with members.
Stay Safe
The YFC Movement provides a safe environment for young people in rural areas to meet, participate in activities and have fun. The National Federation provides regional training for members to keep them up-to-date with current legislation and within our Clubs, workshops are often in the club programme on a range of topics from alcohol awareness, to road safety.
Enjoy and Achieve
Cornwall YFC offers members from 10-26 the opportunity to participate in a range of programmes and activities which are fun and which incorporate elements of personal, social and emotional development. Members have access to a nationally run competitions programme which is developed by members and aims to encourage members to learn new skills, work together as a team and try something new. The programme includes competitions such as public speaking, photography, dance and countryside craft. The programme is linked to the Skills for Life training programme which provides support and often accreditation for club members in developing their skills.
Positive Contribution
All our Young Farmers’ Clubs across the County choose to support a charity each year and find innovative ways of raising funds for them. This can be anything from muck selling, to sponsored bike rides, to raffles, and discos. Cornwall has a strong reputation when it comes to raising money, for the last 4 years we have been awarded the Prince of Wales Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Charitable Fundraising which basically means we have raised alot of dosh (£52,000 in 2008) for Charitiy!
Many of our Young Farmers' Clubs are also involved with their local community where they use their skills to get involved with local community projects such as creating a garden for charity, tiding church yards to ditch clearing.
Achieve Economic Wellbeing
Cornwall YFC has clearly defined learning outcomes, often as part of the NFYFC programmes and activities. Members voluntarily chose to participate in programmes which provide learning experiences which can be used throughout life. The very nature of YFC means that young people are encouraged to take the responsibility of running their own Club and the County. They are the trustees of their charity. Feedback from past members demonstrates how by participating in YFC activities it has helped them in their career.
Youth Matters - Somewhere to go and something to do
YFC clubs across the County provide a place for rural young people to meet and a range of exciting activities to do!
