SKILLS FOR LIFE
The project allows all members the chance to learn new skills whilst also meeting new people and having fun! The County Office finds tutors who are either qualified teachers or people passionate about their subject.
There are three types of course available:
1 ) Skills Certificates
As well as short courses (such as dry stone walling, archery, ball room dancing and flower arranging) skills certificates can be linked to YFC competitions, so the long hours of hard work you put in can now count towards ‘learning hours’ and certificates.
There are three levels of certificate;
– Bronze: 10 hours of learning - Silver: 20 hours of learning - Gold: 30 hours of learning
(Don’t panic - There can be breaks between learning)
2) Legislative Courses
We can sometimes provide funding for legislative courses such as Chainsaw, Pesticides, Tractor Driving and ATV.
3) Vocational Training Scheme (VTS)
These courses can be theoretical (eg computer skills) or practical (eg Hoof trimming). The VTS scheme will fund up to 40% of the course. Courses offered include: financial management, husbandry, Trailer Towing (training and test) and the new Animals in Transit Course.

Farm Health and Safety Day - Thursday 18th March 2010
(Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge)
The event is aimed at young agricultural employees and YFC members aged 16 – 30. By attending the day and providing the farm holding number of your employer – you are providing evidence on the HSE database which will indicate your holding is a low priority for an HSE farm visit.
We highly recommended that members on the Club Development Programme attend as well as ALL other members who live or work farms.
